July 17 (Swadeeka, greetings from Thailand)
After many hours of planning and rescheduling, we made it to Bangkok, Thailand! Although the flight from LAX to Bangkok was 16 hours long, it was quite pleasant. We landed shortly after 6:00 a.m. Bangkok time, which is about 8:00 p.m. back home. So, the crazy plan is to power through our tiredness and lack of sleep and go sight seeing all day in Bangkok during our one day layover!

The second we stepped out of the airport, it hit us; the heat, humidity, mugginess of Bangkok awaits. We arranged for a lovely private tour guided by our humble guide Tao, and our excellent driver, Yut. We spent much of the humid steamy day getting lost in ruins of ancient stupas, temples, palaces, and forgotten kingdoms.  After several hours of exploring a variety of sites that housed magical ancient Buddhas we visited the King’s Palace and WOW! It was amazingly ornate and detailed. As we walked amongst the magnificent King’s Palace it was sobering to think that the magically broken ruins we had just explored had once been as richly decorated as the King’s Palace. Both were beautiful but in different ways.

While exploring the hundreds of life sized Buddha statues that lined the perimeter of the holy site, we met four young students who wanted to practice their English with us. They were shy at first but we enjoyed a brief conversation and we admired that these young ladies were so eager to learn! We traded addresses, emails, took a picture and told the girls to check out the website and blog!  “Hello Friends, Phatthraphon, Kamonchanok, Narirat, Chanohri ~ We look forward to learning more about you through letters and email!”

We are exhausted and will leave for Kathmandu in the morning!
Namaste~ we are looking forward to reaching our final destination!
